Dirty Dinero

A priest in Mexico City has been accused of accepting drug money to build a new chapel. The name of the leader of the Zetas drug cartel, Heriberto Lazcano, appeared on a plaque honoring donors. Has the corruption of the drug industry really permeated into the sacred house of God?

Drug money has been seeping its way into the fabric of the Mexican economy for years. The government, military, police, and media have all succumbed to the pressure of the drug lords. The cartels are infamous for utilizing various techniques to accomplish their goals. They bribe and entice with their ill found wealth, and when that fails, they torture and kill.
It is apparent that these means are effective and largely unthreatened. The enormity of their power is virtually untouchable and indestructible. There is a dark and stormy cloud over the people of Mexico. The iron grip the cartels have on Mexican society and economy has all but snuffed out the fading cries of the Mexican people for peace and justice.

  1. Mexico has become a pretty scary place in the last years. We visited Tijuana a few years ago during a trip to San Diego and it was sad to see how badly those who depended on tourism had been affected by the violence even then when things weren't as bad as they are now.

It's appalling to hear that the corruption has spread its affect to the church as well.
